City Approves Funds for Greater Downtown Action Plan!

In yesterday’s City Council Capital budget discussions, Council approved the 2011 capital budget, complete with some exciting news for the downtown. Councillors have decided to move forward with a significant upgrade to the downtown through initiatives proposed through the Gaetz Avenue Revitalization Plan. Council sees the future of the downtown as vibrant, dynamic, and pedestrian friendly, with the project focus being to implement a streetscape for the downtown that is both unique and focused on pedestrian movement. La Esperanza Opens in Downtown

Those interested in authentic latin american dining have a new option in the downtown, La Esperanza. La Esperanza opened 3 weeks ago, at 5020 50th Street, and is offering authentic Latin American dishes, such as tacos, pupusas, enchiladas, tamales, quesadillas and more. Read more

Parking Space Still Available

There is parking space still available in the all new Sorensen Station. The downtown structure holds 300 monthly parking stalls, some which are vacant, as well as 100 daily parking spaces. Read more

City Hall Park Christmas Lights

The brilliant glow of Christmas lights has overtaken City Hall Park. Despite the unfortunate cancellation of the Biggest Christmas Tree Festival, City Hall Park is now aglow with a spectacular lighting display that is sure to impress. Read more

Rotary Clock Repairs Coming

The Rotary Clock sitting at the corner of Ross Street and 49th Avenue will soon be ticking again. City officials have found an Alberta company with an office in Red Deer, who can repair the 6 meter tall timepiece. Read more

Snow Plowing and Removal Reminder

The City of Red Deer is reminding residents to watch for snow removal notices in front of their homes and businesses. The City leaves signs out 24 hours prior to plowing streets, and will tow vehicles if they are not moved before the snow plows arrive. Read more

Art & Bean Opens in Downtown

Art & Bean has opened at 4804 – 50th Avenue, and is certainly one of the more unique shops in the downtown. Art & Bean owner Andrea Rinkel has created a relaxing atmosphere in which to shop, and carries fair and direct trade merchandise that is created from all natural products. The shop carries a wide variety of products, from throws made from bamboo wool, shawls and scarves made from alpaca wool, essential oil products and accessories, soap products made from all natural ingredients, and locally produced art and crafts.
