The Downtown Business Association has set aside funds for a Façade & Shopfront Improvement Program for storefronts located within the business revitalization zone (BRZ). The program encourages commercial building owners and business operators to invest in façade renovations and storefront upgrades by providing grants to cover a portion of renovation costs.
Under the Downtown Business Association’s program, building owners and business operators can apply for half the cost of eligible renovations up to a maximum of $5000 per façade. Applications must be received and approved before any construction work begins.
"It is our hope that the grants will provide an incentive to complete building upgrades which create a more interesting and appealing environment, attracting people and business to the area," says Laura Turner, Executive Director. "We know that curb appeal is an important factor in making downtowns a more interesting place to walk and shop," she adds.
In addition to the available grant funding, Community Futures Central Alberta has come on board offering the opportunity for businesses to apply for a loan matching the grant amount received throught the Façade and Shopfront Improvement Program. If approved for funding under the Downtown’s program, businesses can apply for a low interest (prime plus 2%) 3-year loan through Community Futures.
Funding may also be available through the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) Incentive Fund.
