Downtown Business Association Appoints New Members

The Red Deer Downtown Business Association held its Annual Meeting on November 18, 2010. At that meeting, Bryan Balderson, Bill Graham, Brian Olstad and Lorna Watkinson-Zimmer were newly elected as members to serve on the Board of Directors effective January 2011. CentreFest Books Canadian Comedy Superstar for Fundraiser!

CentreFest organizers have booked Canadian comedy superstar Roman Danylo for a fundraising event on March 18, 2011. Danylo is the star of Comedy Inc. on CTV and the Comedy Network, and has been seen on Just For Laughs, The HBO Comedy Festival, The Improv Comedy Games and The Improv Comedy Olympics. Danylo is a native Albertan, hailing from Calgary, where he honed his comedic talents in the world-renowned Loose Moose Theatre Company. Danylo will be partnering with Red Deer’s own Neil Grahn, star of CBC Radio’s Irrelevant Show for the evening. Read more

Changes Coming at housewarmings

One of the best parts of downtown Red Deer is the unique, locally owned shops. A Ross Street staple for over 9 years, housewarmings not only fits that category, but helped create it. You’ll be excited to know that things are shaking up at housewarmings. To prepare for a brand new look and feel, complete with as facelift and the introduction of exciting new product lines, housewarmings will be closing for the month of March. Shop Local, Shop Downtown: comforts the sole

When Lorna Watkinson-Zimmer decided to open …comforts the sole, just after Easter of 1993, it was just as much necessity as desire. Lorna had been selling her Birkenstock shoes through a home based business, selling to friends and at the Red Deer Market. Soon, Lorna found that she was simply too busy and did not have the space in her home to continue selling, so she decided to leave her teaching position, and open one of Red Deer’s most pleasant shops.
