The Downtown Business Association is committed to being an influential representative, a resource and a liaison for Red Deer’s Downtown businesses.

As a member of the Business Improvement Area (BIA) in the Downtown core, you are being represented on a daily basis by your Downtown Business Association in many different areas. Your DBA understands that every day you are focused on running your business, ensuring sustainability and promoting growth. It is our responsibility to ensure the external environment is attractive, your concerns are addressed, and that Downtown is promoted as a destination at every opportunity. We’re responsible for retaining and recruiting businesses wherever possible, pushing for solutions to safety, and collaborating with partners who can help  us achieve all of the above on your behalf – every day.

Safety is a key objective of your Downtown Business Association. We work with the RCMP to address this at street level and with The City of Red Deer from a strategic perspective.

Business Attraction and Retention

Your DBA works closely with Downtown business owners to find solutions for these businesses to remain in the core rather than relocating.

Downtown Red Deer has been promoted to several outside businesses as a desirable location for expansion or relocation. Opportunities exist for accommodation (hotels and motels), food and beverage stores (specialty delis, ethnic food stores and combined drinking place with brewery/distillery), admin and support services (employment placement, business support, call centres, janitorial maintenance). Source: MDB Insight: Downtown Red Deer’s Investment Attraction Plan

Business Incubator – Catapult Entrepreneurs

Your DBA has developed a grant-funded business incubator to assist entrepreneurs in getting the start-up help they need to be successful. The purpose of the project is two-fold:

  • To promote business diversification in Downtown Red Deer
  • To foster a relationship between new businesses and the Downtown, including its many services and location benefits, with the hope that when the business is ready to move into its own location, Downtown is a natural solution.

Downtown Community Development Committee (DCDC)

The DCDC was initially created to address the every day ‘on the ground’ challenges that Downtown faces. While respecting The City of Red Deer’s long term vision on community safety, we became aware many businesses were facing immediate safety challenges and action was needed. Facilitated by The City of Red Deer, the group identifies strategies to address social issues affecting Downtown and includes members from the following organizations: Canadian Mental Health, Central Alberta Crime Prevention Centre, Turning Point, John Howard Society, Hope Mission, Safe Harbour, The Mustard Seed and the RCMP.
