Featured Vendors: Troubled Monk and Something Brewing

Featured Vendors

Last week we had a chance to talk to two more of our seasonal vendors, Troubled Monk and Something Brewing. Here is a summary of their interviews.

Troubled Monk

How did you start your business?

Charlie and his brother Graeme Bredo started it about four years ago.

What kind of products do you sell?

We sell beers, gin, vodka, we have different kinds of sodas and a hard iced tea.

What is your “must try” product?

I would say either the gin or the hard iced tea. The gin is infused with butterfly pea blossoms and it makes it blue so if you mix it with tonic water it turns purple, it’s really cool, and its delicious.

What makes you unique?

We have craft soda as well as beer and you can bring your family to the brewery and they can have a soda as you sit there and have a drink.

What is your favourite thing to sell?

I like to sell the sodas, because its surprising how many people want to have a soda, because maybe they’re pregnant or on medication and they get really excited to have something delicious to drink if they can’t have alcohol.

Can you find your product anywhere else?

We distribute all over the province through Liquor Connect so any liquor store in Alberta can order Troubled Monk stuff.

Do you attend any other markets?

We have another rep that does the Edmonton farmers market and I also do the other Red Deer Market and the one in Bentley.

How did you hear about the Downtown Red Deer Market?

Word of mouth, we heard people talking about it.

What is your favourite thing about being in Downtown Red Deer?

How quiet it is, and the way things are designed with the flowers and stuff on the sidewalks and side streets.

Something Brewing

How did you start your business?

Something Brewing is the craft division of Drummond Brewing Company. They started brewing these four beers in 2013. Drummond has their main four beers and then Something Brewing has four main craft beers.

What kind of products do you sell?

Craft Beer!

What is your “must try” product?

The Dark Side would be the type of beer that I would recommend.

What makes you unique?

We stick to the same four types of beer and don’t really venture outside of them, and that we are a division of Drummond.

What is your favourite thing to sell?

My favourite thing to sell would be the Dark Side

Can you find your product anywhere else?

You can find them in liquor stores and a couple other markets.

Do you attend any other markets?

I attend the other Red Deer Market.

How did you hear about the Downtown Red Deer Market?

Through online sources and word of mouth.

What is your favourite thing about being in Downtown Red Deer?

There’s always different types of people down here, and its nice.

Be sure to check out Troubled Monk and Something Brewing at this weeks market from 3:30 p.m. to 6:00 p.m!
